DePue's fence permit starts with a phone call, not a form.
DePue is small enough that you would expect nothing in writing, and instead the village names a fence outright. Its permits page lists the village building inspector and prints his own instruction: thinking about a garage, a house addition, a fence or a deck, step one is to call and inquire about getting a Village Permit. That is the published process, in the village's own words. There is no fence form to download, no online portal, and the permits page carries nothing else on the subject.
Read that as what it is. It is an instruction to ask, not a flat statement that a permit is issued for every fence, and the honest answer to what DePue requires is whatever the inspector tells you on the phone. What you cannot do is substitute Bureau County's answer for it. The village keeps a zoning ordinance of its own, which the county's own planning and zoning department confirms, so the county's position on residential fences does not reach inside village limits. The inspector takes the call on 815-228-4488, and village hall at 111 West 2nd Street handles general questions on 815-447-2177.
The approval stays in your name. We do not pull permits and we will not tell you we did. Once you have the green light, the build is ours: materials, scheduling, installation, and cleanup.

DePue questions.
Do you actually work in DePue?
Yes. DePue is in Bureau County, one of the five counties we cover from Spring Valley. It is about 5.5 miles west of the shop.
How soon can you get out to look at a DePue job?
Call 815-579-2323 and we will book a consultation. At about 5.5 miles we are close enough to come look, and close enough to come back if something needs a second visit. You get a straight answer on scope and timing, with no pitch and no pressure.
Will a fence you build in DePue hold up to an Illinois winter?
We set fence posts below the frost line. That is the part nobody sees, and it is the reason a shallow-set fence starts leaning by year three: frozen ground lifts the post and never sets it back down. It is a fair thing to ask anyone quoting you a fence in DePue.
Do I need a permit for a fence in DePue?
Start with a phone call. The Village of DePue tells a homeowner planning a garage, house addition, fence or deck to call and inquire about getting a Village Permit, and names its building inspector as the person to call, on 815-228-4488. There is no fence form and no online application, and no DePue ordinance text is published anywhere online, so the call is the only route to the real requirement. Do not use Bureau County's rule instead: the county's zoning department lists DePue among nine municipalities that maintain their own zoning ordinance, so the county's position that a residential fence needs no permit does not apply inside village limits. The approval stays in your name. We do not pull permits and we will not tell you we did. Once you have the green light, the build is ours: materials, scheduling, installation, and cleanup.
