What happens after you call us.

Every job here starts the same way: a free estimate at your property, with Jake walking it. This is that sequence written out, from the first phone call to the warranty, for fence, deck and lighting work anywhere in the Illinois Valley. Where the answer is not settled yet, this page says so.

The part most people dread is the part that costs nothing.

Getting a real number out of a contractor is the step people put off. Here it is a free visit, and Jake is the one who comes to it.

You call, or you send the form.

You do not need to know which material you want, how many feet it is, or what it should cost. That is what the visit is for. Tell us roughly what you are thinking about and where the property is.

The form asks a short set of questions about the project and the property, so the first real conversation starts further along than a blank page.

Jake walks it with you.

Jake is the one who comes out. He walks the line with you or stands in the space, reads the ground while he is there, and asks what you are trying to solve. Bring whatever you have been wondering about: which material, where the gate should go, what happens where the yard falls away.

It is free, and it happens for every job we quote, lighting included. How long it takes depends on what you are building, so there is no set appointment length to plan around.

Then the number comes.

One number, worked out after Jake has seen your ground. It comes after the visit rather than during it, so nobody is handed a figure on the doorstep and you should not plan on leaving that conversation with one.

The reason for that order is the ground.

Two ways rock gets paid for

Priced inJake reads the ground while he is walking it with you, so whatever is down there is in your number before you ever see it.
Billed afterThe dig hits stone, the crew stops, and a cost arrives once the number has already been agreed.

Parts of the Illinois Valley are rocky. Which of those two you get is decided before a shovel goes in the ground.

Between the number and the first truck.

This is the stretch people ask least about and worry most about. Here is the part that is settled.

  • We are usually booking a few weeks out, so the wait to start is the part worth planning around.
  • The permit, if your town wants one, and the HOA sign-off if you have one, both stay in your name. We build. The approvals are not ours to file.
  • Materials, scheduling, the build and the cleanup are ours from the day you say go.

There is one thing this page cannot tell you yet, and it is the stretch between saying yes and seeing a truck. Ask Jake what he needs from you to get on the schedule, and ask it while he is standing in your yard. [What we ask for between the quote and the start date, deposit or paperwork: not published yet.]

Who builds it, and what backs it.

Three or four people, and Jake is one of them. He is on the job while it is being built. Nobody new is introduced between the visit and the first day of work.

  • A limited lifetime manufacturer warranty on non-wood fence materials, backed by the manufacturer rather than by us.
  • Our own craftsmanship warranty covers defects in how we installed it, on any deck we build and on any fence but a wood one. Not settling, not weather, not impact, not ordinary wear.
  • A wood fence is the one thing outside both warranties, the manufacturer’s and ours. Worth hearing from us rather than finding out later.
  • Fully insured and registered, and easy to find if you ever need us afterwards.

Xcel has been amazing to work with! They were quick to come out for the estimate, worked with us on what we were looking for, and showed up when they said they would. We absolutely love our new fence.

None of this costs you anything to start.

The estimate is free and Jake is the one who comes to it. Everything on this page happens after that, in the order it is written.

Your only other job is enjoying the yard.
