Ladd allows no fence at all across a residential front yard.
Ladd's fence rules are Chapter 17.58 of the village code, added by Ordinance 1072, and the height table is the part that stops people. In a residential district the front yard and the corner side yard are both listed as none allowed. That is not a lower height limit and it is not a see-through requirement. It is no fence. Side and rear lines cap at six feet and may be fully solid. If your lot is on a corner in Ladd, the second street frontage counts as a corner side, so two of your boundaries can be off the table before you start.
The other Ladd particular is where the fence sits. It stays two feet back from any property line unless it is a division fence built directly on the boundary, and that route needs a written agreement with your neighbor recorded at the Bureau County Recorder of Deeds together with a boundary survey by a licensed Illinois land surveyor carried out inside the last six months. An older survey in a drawer will not do, which is the detail that catches people. Everything goes to the village building inspector on the general Application for Building Permit with a diagram of the fence; there is no separate fence form.
The approval stays in your name. We do not pull permits and we will not tell you we did. Once you have the green light, the build is ours: materials, scheduling, installation, and cleanup.

Ladd questions.
Do you actually work in Ladd?
Yes. Ladd is in Bureau County, one of the five counties we cover from Spring Valley. It is about 4.0 miles north of the shop.
How soon can you get out to look at a Ladd job?
Call 815-579-2323 and we will book a consultation. At about 4.0 miles we are close enough to come look, and close enough to come back if something needs a second visit. You get a straight answer on scope and timing, with no pitch and no pressure.
Will a fence you build in Ladd hold up to an Illinois winter?
We set fence posts below the frost line. That is the part nobody sees, and it is the reason a shallow-set fence starts leaning by year three: frozen ground lifts the post and never sets it back down. It is a fair thing to ask anyone quoting you a fence in Ladd.
Do I need a permit for a fence in Ladd?
Yes, at any height. Ladd's code at 17.58.10 says no person may erect a fence or wall on any property in the village without a building permit from the village, and the ordinance sets no height below which you are exempt. Fences go on the general Application for Building Permit with a diagram rather than a fence form. The height table lists a residential front yard and corner side yard as none allowed and caps side and rear at six feet, and the code requires the finished side to face outward and prohibits barbed wire, razor wire and electrified fencing. Apply at the Village of Ladd office, 121 N Main Ave, on 815-894-2440. The approval stays in your name. We do not pull permits and we will not tell you we did. Once you have the green light, the build is ours: materials, scheduling, installation, and cleanup.
